• It's no secret that my favorite color is blue (take one look at my website and it's pretty obvious) and most of my friends and clients have learned that my favorite flowers are hydrangeas. Blue hydrangeas are of course one of my ultimate favorites, but I have another favorite -- one that's pretty rare.I absolutely LOVE pure white hydrangeas, I think because you find them so rarely. Sure you can find ones that are tinged with green, or slightly pink, but I always stop in my tracks when I see the whitest of the white hydrangeas. The other day I spied some in my local flower shop on Chestnut Stre...

All White hydrangeas arrangements in clear vases placed on top of rustic wine barrels completed the look for this gorgeous ceremony.  Loving the vintage rug as the aisle runner.  Photography by Jasmine Star....

Until I started planning my vow renewal I didn’t know that I loved hydrangeas!  They are simply gorgeous in the type of arrangements that I am drawn towards - low and lush - as well as bouquets, wreaths, and pomanders! Top row: istockphoto, Bloomery Weddings, Verbena Designs Bottom row: Gregory’s Garden, Pricescope, Jupiter Images I also love the variety of colors that hydrangeas come in - blue, purple, green, white, pink - you name it, you got it! I have decided to start a weekly series about different types of flowers since I get asked daily about what goes into our floral designs and how we design for our clients. I wanted to start with hydrangea as I have several topics to talk about when it comes to this beautiful and bountiful flower. First and foremost – Hydrangea is my favorite flower!  I have planted it in front of my house and I love working with it.  It is used in bridal bouquets, altar arrangements, pew decor, centerpieces, garlands, cake decor, etc.  However – this does not mean that it should always be used for all...

For some reason this cake just leaped off my computer screen and said “pick me! pick me!” Why? Because I love hydrangeas and the fact that this cake is half flower half cake just makes it all the better!  This cake is a two tiered round cake decorated with green ferns.  The green and white hydrangeas practically double the size of the cake.  I think this is a perfect solution for smaller weddings.  Even though you have a small wedding you don’t want your cake to look puny!  So adding flowers around the sides and on top add height and width without having to waste a lot of cake. An...

  • I have created somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 bridal bouquets.  It occurred to me just recently, that one ingredient I almost always use is hydrangea.  Hydrangea comes in so many different shades and stages of development that it seems to fit into every design. We use hydrangea not only because of its beauty, but also as a way to support flowers that are less stable. The following bouquet is a cluster of hydrangea first. We then pulled numerous Gerber Daisies through the hydrangea. My bride wanted an all Gerber bouquet. Gerber’s have a very floppy head and need some type of suppor...

  • Rachel and Mike’s Wedding Hydrangeas are old fashioned flowers often found in our grandmother’s gardens during our childhoods, but becoming more popular today because of their gorgeous colours. In hues of blue, mauve, pink and white with many smaller flowers forming a much larger round ‘mop-head’ they lend themselves to a variety of uses for a wedding. Images From Martha Stewart Weddings Individual flowers can be picked and showered over the bride and groom as you would confetti, or scattered on a walkway in a garden setting. The larger complete blooms would look stylish in large v...

  • Hello.  I have been spending much time in my studio printing invitations.  I recently designed & printed 150 invitations, rsvp postcards, direction cards, & thank you notes for a friend I grew up with.  She told me she wanted greens & blues & would have hydrangeas in her bouquet & I took it from there. 200 programs & 20 table markers are still in the works!  You may view a few more photos here, along with a few other invitaitons I have printed. I am just about done with another wedding invitation set & will hopefully be able to share with you tomorrow...
