You may have seen them before, but weren’t exactly sure what they were called… Photo Credit: Jason Norman A Sweetheart Table is a great way to keep an intimate, sophisticated ambiance to your wedding.  My husband and I chose to have a sweetheart table for our wedding for several reasons: The theme of our wedding was “simple sophistication” and the sweetheart table was a perfect way to keep the theme. The majority of our wedding party was married and a sweetheart table allowed them to sit with their spouse/significant other.  They later told us how they really appreciated being able...

The size of our bridal party, 16 including Chris and I, has caused us some logistics problems. Getting to and from the hotel, church, and reception has provided to be a reoccurring nightmare consuming my thoughts at least twice a day. Not to mention that our church has an extra-long aisle and it will take the 7 BM's at least 5 minutes to walk from the back of the church to the front. By the time they make it to the front, the guests will be ready to go home. However, the larger logistical problem at hand is dealing with the seating for ourselves and our large bridal party at the reception.Here...

  • A sweetheart table is a small table set up for just the bride and groom at the wedding reception. The lovely couple sits together, facing their guests, with their wedding attendants and families at tables in close proximity. The advantage is that you get to spend time together and enable your wedding party to sit with family and friends. If you’re not comfortable with being the focal point at the wedding reception, you can have a head table. Your head table can be similar to the other reception tables or it can be a dais table (elevated), to stand out. The head table can consist of all the w...

Filed under: ReceptionsThe Head Table. The bride and groom in the center, their attendants ranging out on either side. For years, this has been the standard reception arrangement. While it has its advantages -- mostly for the guests, who can see you all easily during the toasting and speeches -- it's not the only possible arrangement.Another popular variation is to let the attendants sit with their dates or spouses, and for the couple to sit with their parents. If some of the parents are divorced, however, the logistics of this can get to be challenging, never mind any potential conflicts and ...

  • Modern Tablescape Design Tied Together by { Tinsel & Twine } For our Modern Tablescape submission, we decided to put a Modern spin on a Bride and Groom’s Sweetheart Table, because we felt that these can easily end up looking tragically traditional. Cue the red roses and tapered candles! We were inspired by a recent meeting with a bride-to-be who described her dream wedding as a “non-wedding wedding.” She wants her big day to feel like a cool New York City loft party or a rooftop dinner party with a view of the city. So we envisioned for her a chic sushi dinner party w...

  • A bride tends to stress about every little thing concerning the details of her wedding day. For the most part, guests don’t notice how many votives you lined on each table or how many hydrangea arrangements you settled on for the escort card table, but they do notice some other things that you may not have spent so much time reflecting on. Your guests do care if they get to see you on your wedding day. Often, the way you arrange your own seating will dictate how approachable you make yourself and how easy it will be to make rounds to your guests. I went to a wedding once where the bride opt...

If you’re having a small guest list, it might not be appropriate to have a wedding head table - especially if half your guests will be up there! Darin and I (we had 50 guests at our wedding) didn’t like the idea of a head table. I didn’t want to feel like I was on stage all night. I wanted to feel like I was part of the group. Rather than be set apart from our guests, we sat at a round table that was placed among the other tables in the tent. Since we had a small wedding party, our table included both sets of parents, my maid of honour and Darin’s best man. Here are other great altern...
