whenever i watch a ballet, i am taken away first by the beauty and glamour of the ornate costuming, then by the grace and perfect execution of the ballerina's steps ... and finally, the fervor and momentum and excitement that bubble up with the increasingly dramatic music and the corresponding pirouttes ... it all seems to culminate into something beyond words.it's this aesthetic and energy that i'd like to capture at our wedding. i like to think of it as taking the grace that audrey hepburn and jackie o embodied and putting it into motion as an artform, only instead of on stage, it will be at... |
These four photos are a very tiny sampling of the many AMAZING photos from this Black Swan - ballet inspired bridal fashion photo shoot that took place in the UK and was photographed by Katy Lunsford Photography. To see the entire photo shoot with all the details and story behind the photos, please click here. Since my little girl is going to be starting her 3rd year of ballet/tap this fall and she had her first ballet summer camp this week, I'm always drawn to anything ballet inspired. And, this shoot is just gorgeous. Loving the makeup and isn't the bouquet below stunning with the large bro... |
One of my favorite parts of summer in Portland is when the Oregon Ballet Theater rehearses out in the park each day for a week. This is the week! If you can, check it out over at Director Park. It's free! More information here. My friend, Debbie, took this photo of a ballet class (not in the park). Isn't it lovely? Photo: Debbie of Tiny Abstraction. ... |
Being a dancer myself, I couldn’t help buy get excited when I came across an old article in some dance magazine about Canadian designer Justina McCaffrey’s use of ballerinas from the National Ballet of Canada as models. Her spring 2007 “Majestic” collection was presented on the 2006 NYC Bridal Market runway by dancers Leslie Schroeter, Krista Dowson, Tamara Jones and Juri Hiraoka, as well as second soloists Julie Hay and Bridgett Zehr and principal Heather Ogden. Doesn’t that just make a smashing impression? I don’t practice ballet any longer being a tap fanatic myself, but I can ... |

What is it about the ballet, that is just so romantic, alluring and inspiring? A group of wedding professionals in Virginia took the concept and ran with it to produce a poetic evening photoshoot at Mount Ida Farm. Feminity and grace were juxtaposed against the rustic-luxe venue. Billowing florals cascaded across the tabletops, exquisite calligraphy danced across the paper goods, and the shoot even featured dancer/models from the Richmond Ballet! sourceJust how much does the world of ballet influence bridal? A lot. Traditional ballet costume evolved in the era of the Johann Strass', a young Queen Victoria, and Giselle, an 1840s ballet by Aldophe Adam. Think classic corps de ballet in long white tulle and floral wreath. The 'Willis'--brides to be who had the bad luck to die on the eve of their wedding--wore this exact ensemble in Giselle. Also reflecting the silhouette of the ballet costume as we know it, Queen Victoria clinched the look when she married Prince Albert wearing yards of white lace and dressing her flock of attendants acco... |
I love the look of these tights and leggings with stirrups on the feet. I'd prefer to call them ballet tights rather than stirrup tights, so as to not conjure up scary fashion images from 5th grade. Pairing them with flats is so pretty and unexpected. Find them here and here.Image from Saltwater.... |
Hello lovelies! After weeks in recovery, I finally have some extra energy to do something other than work and sleep. My adorable friend Poppy decided that a ballet class was in order, and I couldn’t agree more! The class starts tomorrow night and I am giddy with excitement! Perhaps it will look like this class… no?
