If I haven’t mentioned this before, I have a fear of carbohydrates that is simply irrational. And so, I admire wedding cakes from afar, with a lustful eye, simply admiring their beauty rather than tasting their sweet, sweet goodness (that said, I have an insane recall memory and even after one bite, I can tell you EXACTLY what a certain bakers filling, or fondant or red velvet cake tasted like.). In any case, the point is, I admire a beautiful wedding cake and have always wished that everyone, no matter the budget or locale, could have a stunning cake! Well, NOW thanks to Amy at Suga... |

To add a touch of whimsy, we spiced up the color scheme of this cake using a much brighter color palette of pink and oranges inspired by this whimsical cake. The top of the cake includes a pink loop bow with trailing pink tails. And the top box lid is covered in ivory fondant with sugar flowers and tissue paper flowing out. Flavors included vanilla with oreos and cream buttercream, vanilla cake with hazelnut mousse and chocolate cake with raspberry chambord mousse. We delivered the cake to ... |

Here's my feeling on sugar flowers: They're way more fun if you have a pro create ones that even nature couldn't dream up. These faux daisies were the perfect accents to this flirty cake we featured on our show. Photo: Hayley Schlesinger Cake: Elizabeth Hodes Custom Cakes & Sugar Art... |
Well, as you know my sister and I are trying to learn how to make all sorts of sugar flowers. We have become quite obsessed with them and my credit card bill definitely proves it! I have only actually taken one class from Ron Ben-Israel on how to make sweet pea sugar flowers and the rest we have learned through books and watching videos from Nicholas Lodge. Sugar flowers are very tedious and require a lot of patience (and tools), but they are also one of the more artistic aspects of cake decorating. The cake was buttermilk cake with white chocolate mousse buttercream and fresh strawber... |
