Turquoise + Shark Dinner Party It’s SHARK WEEK! So, we thought it fitting to share this humorous outdoor dinner party! Bright turquoise and white striped fabric made the perfect tablecloth for this sea-themed dinner. Of course, the star of the dinner was the centerpiece shark filled with fresh cocktail shrimp and sauce.  We surprisingly found this shark at a local pet supply store in the aquarium section! We filled a crystal centerpiece bowl with ice and topped with the shark and fresh cocktail shrimp. It made for a touch of humor and lots of laughs perfect for shark week! So host a sha...

The Land Shark This week we have some dear friends visiting from out of town and tonight we asked them what they had planned for their day tomorrow.  They replied that they were planning to go on the “Land Shark” also known as Santa Barbara Land and Seas Tours.  It reminded me how fun it is to come to Santa Barbara and just enjoy seeing all of the beautiful sights. If you are planning your wedding from out of town you may not know about this unique way to tour Santa Barbara by land and sea.  These massive amphibious vehicles can be spotted all over Santa Barbara delighting visitors and...

Photo: Courtesy of Jacqueline Gifford For the first time in my life, I splurged on a new bikini with no shopper's remorse. Why? My husband, Rob, and I had signed up to swim with sharks, a popular tourist excursion in Bora Bora. I figured if I was going to get eaten (there are no cages, fyi), I should at least be in a hot suit. So here's how the big day went down: Our loincloth-ed, ukulele-playing guide, Scilly (pronounced silly—yes, silly), picked us up from our resort, along with three other petrified couples. The boat powered outside the lagoon into open sea, wh...

  • The story behind Art Shark Designs is that founder and artist Megan Nolton wanted to make a really great Christmas present for her sister. "She had just moved home after living in London for a few years and missed it terribly," says Megan. "So for a Christmas gift, I made her a London print to remind her of her time there.” The red umbrellas were added because Megan thought the prints needed a pop of color and her own engagement took place under an umbrella. "I find the idea of couples enjoying a great city on a rainy day under umbrellas to be quite romantic," Megan adds. The next print she ...

The limited edition prints feature a couple with red umbrellas in landscapes from cities across the world. We've included a few of our favorites below, including Paris, Washington DC, New Orleans and Venice, but visit the Art ShArk Designs etsy shop to see the full collection of limited e...

Yes that is right! I actually enjoy seeing sharks! I spent last week in Cape Hatteras, NC with my Dad scuba diving. I thought I'd share a few highlights with you today. We dove all week with Outer Banks Diving on the Flying Fish. This was our first year out with them and it was so much fun. We especially enjoyed the hot dogs in the afternoon for lunch in between dives. (Thanks Milton!) We made two dives a day on the boat. We were generally 20-30 miles off shore each day in 100+ feet of water. We only had rough seas one day (Tuesday). The swells were between four and six feet so we got tossed ...

Du-na, Du-na, Du-na... que the dramatic Jaws music for this amazing Shark/Scuba Birthday Party by Abigail of Paper & Cake. Abigail took inspiration from her son’s new obsession – sharks – and created this ultra-creative & colorful birthday party!A few of my favorite details include the homemade scuba tanks, the huge cardboard shark cutout in the front lawn, and the adorable felt shark fins that all the party-goers wore. I also LOVE the addition of the Scuba symbol… genius! The sand-and-sea-shell centerpiece and beach towel table runner were the perfect details to complete this...
