As I have mentioned in past posts-aspects of the wedding design are “destinations” for your guests and often serve double duty. We recently produced a wedding in the Hamptons and I want to share the seating card table concept with you. We had our master builder, Wallace, craft this beautiful table-then white washed it. We also had Wallace build four removable trays and we filled them shells. To secure the cards we drilled holes and ran rope tightly across 4 sections. Slipped the cards in….. Added the shells and hung ribbons, candlelight and wind-chimes from the limbs of the tree...

I receive many emails asking what is the difference between TABLE cards and SEATING place cards. TABLE CARDS are often used to identify a table to your guests. Let’s say you have 150 guests and have several round tables that seat a limited amount of guests. You will want to designate a number or “table name” to each table. This will help your guests find their assigned seating easily. When I walk into a party or reception I do prefer assigned seating. I am always amazed at how lost some guests look when there is no assigned seating. Most guests want to be guided in the right direction up...

Sometimes my inspiration for an overall wedding design stems from a tiny detail. It could be a postcard, matchbook, or even a unique ribbon. Details are very important in achieving an overall cohesive design for any event. I always check to make sure that all the elements in my designs, from a 15 foot floral tower to the napkin detail, make sense for the design concept. Escort card tables are an integral part of creating the atmosphere you desire. This detail introduces the guests to next part of your celebration and sets the mood for the night.  Another great thing about escort card tables ...

We picked these beautiful flash cards up at Anthropologie in the mall. When I saw them I just knew we should use them for table cards at the wedding. How cute it is to be seated at table Hen or table Bee! We love animals, and this is a great way to express that! See more at the Wee Gallery website. Are you wondering if you should opt for assigned seating at your wedding reception? While it seems like a lot of work, the task might might be worth your time. As a guest, I have always appreciated assigned seating at the reception- it eliminates the awkward milling about and spending time trying to figure out the best place to sit. And, there are many benefits to you as a couple … you get to be in control of the flow of the room! By grouping your guests with similar tastes and lifestyles, you’re increasing the chances of them enjoying themselves. Plus, if some of your guests have special ...

When you’re planning your seating chart remember that there are two places in the reception room that are not regarded as the best seats in the house. Sitting next to the band or a DJ’s speaker makes it hard for guests to have conversations at the table. And sitting next to the kitchen places guests far from the dance floor and center of activities, as well as puts them right next to a very busy area – waiters and bussers with large trays coming and going. As you can see from the photo above, we were seated next to the kitchen at a recent wedding we attended. Now that’s fine, someone...

When it comes to making head table seating arrangements for your wedding reception, you have options! From traditional seating to the romantic sweetheart table and more, there is a lot to consider before you make your final decision. Here are a few ideas … Traditional Head Table Will you opt for the one-sided head table that seats you and your wedding party up-front and overlooking your guests? This traditional seating option is great for keeping you all at the focal point of the room for toasting, etc. But, keep in mind that this seating arrangement also keeps your wedding party separated f...
