I want you to know that entering into this wedding I was bound and determined that I was going to eat dinner at my wedding.  Everyone told me that it couldn’t be done, everyone said that I would be far to busy to eat.  And you see it on TV all the time, the couple get married and spend the entire day chasing the food around to never get any of it.  Well let me tell you two things; the first is that I do not do well without food.  We call it being hangry in my family – hunger induced anger – so not eating was not going to make for a pretty bride.  The other things is that our recptio...

On Monday's blog we discussed the florals needed for the wedding ceremony, well today we will talk about the reception's floral needs. I'm a firm believer that when dealing with the floral budget, put more towards the reception because your guests will be at that location for 4-6 hours verses your ceremony location for 1-2 hours. For your reception decor, consider the following to enhance the space:Cocktail table small arrangementsEscort Card table arrangementHead or Sweetheart table arrangements (but you can cut costs in this department by using the bridal bouquets as decor)Guest Book table ...

Out of all of the undertakings for the vow renewal, there was one that I spent by far the most time on and was undeniably the most nervous about…. The First Dance. The hubby didn’t have to do much to prep for the vow renewal… much except for one thing.  He agreed to learn to dance.  So for 18 months, twice a week, we took lessons at Chicago Dance and we learned to waltz.  Our coach and I and choreographed a 2 minute Viennese Waltz to “You and Me” by Lifehouse, one of our favorite bands.  I, having been a figure skater and dancer, was not at all worried about the performance, but ...

  • Now that we’ve found our beautiful chapel we need an equally beautiful, whimsical, wonderful, rustic, and vintage-y (yes, it’s still a word). The wonderful woman in charge of weddings at the Chapel suggested one of their beautiful-but-uncovered-patios. Eureka! But which one, would the practical couple choose? We’re happy to be having our wedding in an off-peak month here in Arizona, but it gives us oodles more to think about… 1) Heat 2) Heat 3) Oh yah, an August wedding in Northern Arizona…. but its still in Arizona so HEAT! You might say we were worried about the heat… but ...

Todd and I arranged for every single posed picture to be taken before the ceremony started. We saw each other before the ceremony and took all of our wedding party and family photos before. We were really looking forward to leaving the ceremony and getting to the reception as soon as possible so we could party with our friends and family. We exited the chapel and the entire wedding party boarded a trolley. We waited about 20 minutes before we made our grand entrance to the ballroom and the dancing began! We had our first dance to “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and my dad and I danced to ...

I hope you guys have enjoyed seeing our wedding and learning more about Indian traditions as much as I have enjoyed sharing them with you! Portraits: Fresh Floral Arrangements at each table: The Table Names: (These were created in Photo Shop by me and then printed out folded and inserted into frames. The names came from different Bollywood Movies, we made sure to use the romantic ones only!) I passed along the Photo Shop template to our photographer to use on our place cards also: (Our reception colors were purple and gold to match my dress and Jay’s tux.) Our GORGEOUS and YUMMY cupcake ...

Filed under: Planning Your Reception Cunningham Photo Artists Traditionally, any wedding reception with a full meal dictated that there be preordained seating arrangements. Today, couples who throw less formal celebrations sometimes opt out of them. Regardless of the emerging custom, many guests, especially those that may not know many people at your wedding, are likely to appreciate the effort. If you do have a seating chart, make seating cards -- which have the guest's name and table assignment -- and place them in alphabetical order near the entrance to the reception. Then identify each ta...

So another image I’d like to highlight from this week’s inspiration board is this dinner scene photographed by Johnny Miller. Sometimes its harder to figure out what to do with a simple indoor space but this image shows us how to take full advantage of blank white walls and turn them into a really moody, elegant, beautiful reception. What makes this image so lovely? Primarily it’s the lighting. This look could easily be achieved in a white space if you hire your local lighting company to wash the room in soft rosy, lavender, and blue colors, and then (making sure your venue allows them)...

  • There was recently a question about slide shows at a reception and whether or not they are tacky. The answer will depend on who you ask however, since our studio is a full time photography and video production company we often get requests for reception productions. These productions will range in complexity and in price, but if you are planning on entertaining your guests and yourself with a video montage at your wedding and don’t want to make it tacky, than use a professional studio to create your reception video. Typically, there are three kinds of reception productions, which we see. T...

Welcome Receptions are fabulous for two reasons. One, they revive tired out guests before the ceremony and set the mood. Two, it gives a reason for guests to come 15-30 minutes early and thus helping stem the tide of late guests. Both are valuable reasons! The Welcome Reception should be a light fare. It can be as simple as lemonades- something light and refreshing after a long drive. Think low-mess foods, non-alcoholic drinks. It shouldn't be grander than the wedding reception. A great place to mention that you're having a Welcome Reception is on your map or accommodations card.Photo courtesy ...
