• People love paper lanterns.  They make a space feel festive, intimate and fun.   However, how you use them properly is the tricky part.   Here is my advice for using them for your own event. 1) Paper Lanterns create an “outdoor” feel. They don’t make sense in a refined ballroom/ space. I tend to use them outdoors, in a tent or a venue that conveys an outdoor vibe (think loft for example). 2) Use lanterns that are color “natural” with the “irregular ribbed” pattern. For a relatively inexpensive item, these look luxurious when lit.  The white and regular ribbed tend to look c...

Take your que from Tavern on the Green and hang paper lanterns from the trees, or from the ceiling in clusters. Two or three hung low over a table would look just smashing, and at $6.50 - $12.50 a piece, you can afford to hang a bunch. These are available at Pearl River Mart on Broadway in Soho, or on their website. They come in a variety of interesting shapes, colors and sizes, don't be afraid to mix them up!...

These Waldorf star paper lanterns from Green Baboon Designs are so pretty – and they come in every shade of the rainbow and in both mini and full-size versions!  Just slip a tiny (non-flammable) LED light in the middle and I could easily see them used for some after-sunset lighting for a wedding reception or grouped together in little clusters for a dinner party. Or, if you happen to be looking for something that makes a bit more of a statement, check out these petal lanters from June Petals – I’m partial to the toile version on the right: {image credits: green baboon designs and ...

I wanted to make a covering for the candles like this so I don’t have to worry about whether or not the jars are ugly.  I tried using card stock (the one on the left) and vellum (the middle and the right). The vellum has a nicer curve, but if folded too hard it cracks and breaks. 1. Mark 1.5″ from the edge of your page so that the paper is 7″ wide instead of 8.5″ (for a pasta sauce sized jar). Instructions after clicking more! 2. Trim off the 1.5″ strip 3. Mark 1.5″ again, but this time on both sides of the paper 4. Fold the paper in the middle and along the 1.5″ margins 5...

  • Paper Lanterns from Martha Stewart Weddings, Paper Lanterns at Emily & Garrett’s wedding from brides Farah left a comment last week asking about finding paper lanterns in Australia. Paper lanterns look fabulous in wedding decor. During the ceremony they can be hung overhead. They can light the path to your venues, light your outdoor lounge area, be strung across the ceiling of your reception room, hung above tables and light up the dancefloor. So I went on a hunt and came up with these! Vivid Room stocks a lot of different types, from Chinese lantern style, to dotty ones! They have a ...
