I love the idea of having a backyard, informal wedding that's all party, no fuss. Living in Florida, weather is unreliable and bugs are terrible, but for those of you in parts of the country with real seasons, the option for an outdoor soirée in late summer/early fall is so appealing. Outdoor weddings in a back yard or park can be intimate and elegant or large and boisterous (with the right group!). Dress it up, dress it down, but however you do it, show off your own style. Wedding style ideas to consider:-Bring indoor furniture outside to create a living space -S... |
Sean & Nicola love the great outdoors so that’s exactly where they headed for their engagement shoot. A local country park provided the perfect setting for this sweet, fun and romantic photo shoot. Afterwards the couple got dressed up and headed back to the city for some hilarious photo booth style shots – these are my favourites! Be sure to check back for Sean & Nicola’s gorgeous vintage-inspired/Scottish wedding next week! Thanks to Sam & Sequoia for sharing these today ... |
At this recent event, I designed this dinner tent to feel like a warm yet sophisticated dining room. Because we used small 6-8 person custom dining tables and banquets, we needed a strong element to unify the room. Thus we created four over-sized industrial metal drum shades. I love searching for the perfect harmony between rough and fine materials. Here, we balanced elegant silk and wool elements with the rough burlap and metal shades. Here is a peak at the same space during a winter site visit. While New York City offers incredible venues, nothing inspires me more than nature. But ... |
Most outdoor areas are often overlooked or under utilized at wedding venues. I am working with a bride who wants to make use of a concrete outdoor patio to create an ultra hip lounge and overflow area. Don’t be afraid to ask your venue about using their furniture or accent pieces. Just recently, we asked a venue if we could use their lobby furniture which consisted of high-end leather sofas, chairs, tables in another area of the building and they said “yes”. The venue charged the bride a small fee to move the furniture; however the fee was much cheaper than paying a party rental store ... |

It had rained for 2 weeks before our wedding and given that we were having our ceremony outside we had to ensure that the grounding was safe (especially since I was definitely rocking 4 inch heels AND we were having some older people there that we did not need falling down). Also – a lot of the beautiful grass had washed away right in the area where I would be walking down the aisle. After thinking of all of the things we could use, from stone slabs, to literally offering to brick the entire thing for the venue – my dad had discovered 75% off carpet at Lowes. Yes, it sounds weird –... |
