One of the daily wedding business emails I read is from the very knowledgeable Liene Stevens who pens, ThinkSplendid.com. Today's feature is an interview with celebrity wedding planner and inspiration to wedding planners everywhere, Marcy Blum. Click here to read the interview. I receive several emails a month asking how to get started in the wedding industry, and I share this interview with you because I think there is a lot of helpful (and honest) information here. In honor of the fact that this evening is the SURE TO BE FABULOUS book launch for Preston Bailey’s Celebrations book, I thought I’d take the chance to spread the news to my professional, non-bride readers out there about a fantastic opportunity to really expand your horizons and broaden your career outlook: The Bailey & Blum mentoring weekend. Preston Bailey and Marcy Blum are arguably the top of the top when it comes to event designers and event planners in the business. In fact, they actually changed the game. Before Jung Lee was barking orders or David Tutera was pigmaleon, Pres... |
Living in NY, I’m not one to be star-struck (except for that time a few weeks ago when I chased down Andrew McCarthy and told him he was the crush of my teenage years), however there were a few Wederatti that I admired from afar since the early days of our business and Marcy Blum, was one of them. When Mayra and I met Marcy we were at a small-ish dinner event for 30, we spent the entire next day saying “I can’t believe we met Marcy Blum!” Since then, Mayra and I have gotten to hang out with Marcy many times and in addition to her being truly Legendary (ISES recently honored her with a ... |
I get emails all the time from people who want to be wedding planners. I try to give them the best advice I can but I usually suggest that they reach out to wedding planners in their area who they can possibly work for and if a job isn't available they can ask for an informational interview, which will allow them to learn more about the job.If you're thinking of becoming a wedding planner, or are one and looking to grow your business, here's my advice to you: Consider taking the Bailey & Blum weekend mentoring program in New York City next month. I had breakfast with Marcy earlier this ... |
It was the way she made me feel. And her voice. Like Barbara Walters, but less annoying and pretentious. Mrs. Blum's soft hands were spotted with nickel-sized spots, her fingers like giraffes floating in mid-air. She decorated her library section with posters, Romona Quimby books, and safari stuffed animals. She was one of the reasons we took the hour-long bus ride to her library. Mrs. Blum and her giraffes. The library where I grew up was small, had bars on the windows, and was closed more often than not. And there was a lack of Romona Quimby. I read through most the books in the chi... |
First of all, sorry for not posting yesterday. I had a crazy day at work and spent most of the afternoon and night working on our booth at the Medical Foundation of Marion & Polk Counties Event. And I must say the best part was that the speaker for the event was THE DUCHESS OF YORK! My boyfriend and I got to meet her, take a picture with her, and then watch her program from great seats. She is totally funny and an inspiration to all about giving back. I'll post the picture as soon as I get it. But to my real reason of posting...I came across Blum (pronounced bloom I believe, as the "u"... |
Well, we are back- no fanfare, no excuses, just a resurrection. I’ll start with a bit on the Bailey and Blum weekend: Yes, there are lots and lots and lots of “Academies”, “Intensives”, “Boot Camps” and all sorts of sessions and seminars for wedding and event planning professionals. Why, you might ask (and you’d certainly be entitled to do so), would the world need another? The answer is because my friend Preston and I thought it would be fun, and we thought we could do something different and special. And we did. We kept it intimate and we made it pricey enough that we c... |
Today I’m going to bring it back home to Minnesota to give you some fantastic eye candy from one of my local favorites - wedding photographer Matt Blum. I am head over heels in love with the way Matt uses color to create a story and add in a sense of nostalgia and emotion. Each photograph is perfectly composed and considered. If I had my wedding in Minnesota, he would have immediately been picked as my top choice… I hope you guys enjoy his work just as much! Images from Matt Blum Photography.... |
Let me preface this by saying outright that I have a complete couple-crush on this pair. The bride is hopelessly gorgeous with a killer sense of style and the groom is just ALL cuteness. So although I might be a bit biased, I am going to put it all out there and say that this wedding is a total keeper. From the stunning letterpress stationery to the gown whose gorgeousness literally makes me blush, captured all to utter perfection by Matt Blum, well…I heart you lovely wedding, I heart you.
