I have decided to start a weekly series about different types of flowers since I get asked daily about what goes into our floral designs and how we design for our clients. I wanted to start with hydrangea as I have several topics to talk about when it comes to this beautiful and bountiful flower. First and foremost – Hydrangea is my favorite flower!  I have planted it in front of my house and I love working with it.  It is used in bridal bouquets, altar arrangements, pew decor, centerpieces, garlands, cake decor, etc.  However – this does not mean that it should always be used for all...

Until I started planning my vow renewal I didn’t know that I loved hydrangeas!  They are simply gorgeous in the type of arrangements that I am drawn towards - low and lush - as well as bouquets, wreaths, and pomanders! Top row: istockphoto, Bloomery Weddings, Verbena Designs Bottom row: Gregory’s Garden, Pricescope, Jupiter Images I also love the variety of colors that hydrangeas come in - blue, purple, green, white, pink - you name it, you got it! Hydrangeas can be the simplest and most beautiful flower if you let them stand on their own merit....

  • Hello.  I have been spending much time in my studio printing invitations.  I recently designed & printed 150 invitations, rsvp postcards, direction cards, & thank you notes for a friend I grew up with.  She told me she wanted greens & blues & would have hydrangeas in her bouquet & I took it from there. 200 programs & 20 table markers are still in the works!  You may view a few more photos here, along with a few other invitaitons I have printed. I am just about done with another wedding invitation set & will hopefully be able to share with you tomorrow...

  • I have created somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 bridal bouquets.  It occurred to me just recently, that one ingredient I almost always use is hydrangea.  Hydrangea comes in so many different shades and stages of development that it seems to fit into every design. We use hydrangea not only because of its beauty, but also as a way to support flowers that are less stable. The following bouquet is a cluster of hydrangea first. We then pulled numerous Gerber Daisies through the hydrangea. My bride wanted an all Gerber bouquet. Gerber’s have a very floppy head and need some type of suppor...

Hydrangeas have seen a huge boost in popularity. For weddings, they’re styled in one color or mixed with other lush colors to show their true beauty and simplicity. I’ll start with the most dreamy use of hydrangeas. This swoon-worthy runner was made using all green hydrangeas and is so incredibly beautiful I can barely stand it! While the runner is rather grand, even the most simple use of a hydrangea cut short and placed in a vintage tea cup can have an impact that most single stems of a bloom couldn’t achieve. Here’s another example where a simple vessel and just a few stems can be ...

The summer months can be challenging for someone who loves peonies, ranunculus and blossoming branches. I receive so many requests from brides looking for summer or autumn replacements for these lush spring blooms. One of my favorite suggestions is the classic hydrangea. When you're looking for abundance in your floral arrangements, try these wonderful, seasonal superstars. There are endless varieties and the color range is magnificent. I'm currently making plans for an upcoming event that requires hundreds of hydrangea, all in a range of crisp summer blue tones. Check out the many examples o...

Photo credit: Tracie Fong One of my favorite flowers is the hydrangea. (Of course, they were my flower choice for my wedding!) The photograph shown above was a photo that my bridesmaids and I shot while in the hotel room, the day of my wedding. One of the reasons why I love this flower so, is because it is just so versatile! Hydrangeas come in a variety of colors; green, blue, pink, purple – they can easily be worked into different color schemes. Hydrangeas are large in size too! These beauties take up a large portion of the bouquet, so instead of 2 Dozen roses, you’ll only need a few hyd...
