I have always loved henna, anytime my girlfriends would get it done I have to admit, I was so jealous… I really wanted it too. I have so much respect and appreciation for different cultures and cultural traditions that when I saw these pictures of beautiful wedding henna, I just had to post about it … photo credit: www.bride.ca This henna necklace is divine.  As with all henna, I absolutely love the details and the silver is just beautiful! The shoulder henna is another beauty … simply gorgeous. photo credit: www.bride.ca To honor an amazing henna artist, Pavan, I have to share some of ...

  • I’ve featured Indian weddings before, mainly because I am crazy-obsessed with bright colours and who does it better?! However with this wedding I am infatuated with a different side – the personal touches, the uncomplicated feeling and the desaturated colours used to photograph all that beautiful henna. Oh and yes, there’s a lot of photos here..so sue me! Thanks to Kyrani for sharing these with us ...

Sandy Patangay traditionally applies henna tattoos to Indian wedding parties and guests of parties of all kinds. But she's recently branched out with an extraordinary new company Creme-Delicious. She re-creates her intricate henna designs on perfectly delicious little heart cakes. This is how it's done. First her baker creates the chocolate, vanilla or red velvet creations covered in white fondant. Sandy colors each cake to achieve the vibrant Indian hues she seeks. The cakes are cream-infused with white chocolate, strawberry or chocolate hazelnut. Then she painstakingly decorates each ...

Our wedding festivities started off with a henna night for all of our family. Traditionally a henna night consists of the bride and her female family members and friends getting their hands painted and just hanging out. We however wanted to take this opportunity for both families to meet and mingle so that the rest of the functions would be more enjoyable. The path leading up to my grandparents house was lined with red votives that looked beautiful as the sun began to set. The steps had ceramic pots that we decorated with gem stones at the top, out of them we had blue fabric running the leng...

I really love the artistry of henna. The skill is so impressive and it looks so cool! Here are a few fun photos from a Mehndi party for one of my recent Hindu-American weddings.  I am loving the contrast of the henna feet in the wedding shoes! The ladies check out the henna design book! My favorite part of the bride's design was the groom's name hidden within the designs on her hands. It was tricky to find but I love the sweet symbolism! The bridesmaids show off their hands! Everyone had so much fun at this party. The Mehndi party is an idea I want to steal for all my weddings!Laura...

Photo: Averyhouse Dana Wood, our savvy Beauty Director, recently pinned this stunning henna artistry from a traditional Indian wedding. The elaborate treatment to the bride's hands combined with the bright bangle bracelets is nothing short of beautiful. At a Hindu wedding, as seen here at Rachna and Rishi's Milwakee celebration, the bride's hands (and feet!) are magnificently patterned with a reddish-brown design, referred to as "henna". The ritual is performed during an afternoon tea before the big day, and the groom's name is always included in the pattern. The intri...

Weddings in India are considered to be a sacred and sanctified ritual. A typical Indian wedding is 3 days long. Pre-celebrations and post celebrations, talk about a party! The Mehndi is one of the most important and fun pre-wedding rituals. Celebrated by the bride, family and her friends. Different regions of the country celebrate the ritual in a different way according to their own marriage customs, rituals, and culture. Image Via Hocus PocusMehndi or Henna itself is eco-friendly. • On Saturday just gone, Martin caught me doing a celebratory jig, complete with song in our dining room. When I say ‘celebratory jig’, what I actually mean is me jumping/shuffling around like a bit of a loon. And when I say ‘complete with song’, what I actually mean is some high-pitched squealing. And from this high-pitched squealing, the only words Martin could decipher were “Birmingham”, “The One” and “its ready”! Yes ladies (and gents), The One is officially ready. Le eeek! But more on that later… These past two weeks have been quite productive on the wedding front. Not...

Filed under: Alternative Weddings, Culture Clash, Bridal BeautySkin decorations on the bride -- and sometimes the groom -- is common in South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Often called "bridal tattoos", the name is inaccurate. Henna "tattoos" do not involve piercing the skin with dyes. Instead, these decorations stain only the surface of the skin. The patterns and color of the designs will vary depending on where they are made. Indian mehndi covers the entire palm; Arabic is drawn to one side of the hand.No Indian wedding is complete without mehendi, the process of applying henna. He...
