Ah, the elusive…green flower. The what? Yes. The green flower. Rare, and a little strange, but always beautiful. You can find green-hued flowers in varieties such as geraniums and orchids.  But wait, this isn’t a botany blog, is it? I love this cake.  My love of white on white cakes was discussed last month here and here.  And today, I find another example of a white on white cake, with just a little punch of unexpected color, via green flowers.  The simple mums encircle the base of the top tier of this three-layered beauty, providing a jolt of fresh color – a perfect contrast with t...

I can’t stand spiders (ick), yet I can’t seem to stop making them for Halloween. Some of the first cupcakes I ever tried to decorate were these spiders two Halloweens ago. The legs are licorice. They’re really easy to assemble. Just sprinkle chocolate jimmies on top of dark chocolate frosting and insert licorice legs. Plop on a couple of red mini m&m’s and you’re good to go. Then, last year I tried to make some Spider Cake Pops. Again with licorice legs. (These aren’t as easy because the legs are too fragile hanging like this. Not one of my favorite cake pop designs.) A cou...

Not me, thankfully, because Maureen's Halloween wedding invitations are loaded with spiders - not to mention bats, skulls, and grave markers. I had the most fun with these and loved the break from an Ecru wedding invitation. Can't wait to work on the seating chart! ;) To see her entire set, click here....

I love mums. I love how bright they are. You can have my heart with a bouquet of Yoko Ono mums. (AKA 'green button mums'... but Yoko Ono is so much cooler... ew, ew, ew. I'm sorry I probably just seared that image in your brain.)My soon to be husband moved into the loft we'll be living in once we're married. Here are my touches of fem. Some brides like to go literal with their color schemes, others like to use their favorite color as an accent. These shower arrangements are about as literal as you can get with the color palette that was at hand; Green and purple!   The vases were made from recycled yogurt tubs wrapped in wax paper and white floral mesh, and topped off with a pretty purple and white striped ribbon.   The floral shopping list: Green Spider Mums, purple-ish/pink Spider Mums, green and purple Hydrangeas, and some cool looking dyed purple branches. • This pink and green inspiration board is a beautiful example of some of my favorite spring blossoms.  One flower I absolutely adore is the Peony.  No other flower is close to this very full, very fragrant, very lush bloom it truly has no comparison. Brides love its size, fluffy petals and its rich color.  This is one flower that truly is best in season.  In Northern VA. you can expect them to be blooming from the mid to end of May. If special ordered, you are able to obtain them from other countries all through April and a few weeks in to June but be prepared to spend, spend, spend. This ...
