We are so thrilled to be New Yorkers as we celebrate the landmark legislation that passed Legalizing Gay Marriage in our state… Hopefully this will start a domino effect of many states passing similar legislation, Or, better yet, motivate us as a country to make this legal Federally. It seems almost silly that a marriage that is legal in one state would be null and void should you travel or move to another. But, technically speaking, that’s currently the case. Still, let’s not harp on what ISN’T and instead we at Always a Bridesmaid want to celebrate what IS and prai... |
I recently had the distinct pleasure of hearing Bernadette Smith of 14 Stories, the country's most successful gay wedding planning company, speak about gay weddings coming to D.C. You may not know that earlier today the DC City Council voted in favor of allowing legal marriage. This isn't the final vote but it is a good sign.Bernadette spoke on the positive impact that gay marriage had on Massachusetts (her state) and how it would bring tons of new revenue and jobs to the city (hooray!). Plus, who doesn't love thousands of additional weddings each year?We are an open and affirming wedding pl... |
I clicked through from Twitter to another wedding blog a few minutes ago expecting to find a post praising the fact that Martha Stewart Weddings has featured a gay wedding in the most recent issue. Here at The Unbride we support the rights of all adults to marry whomever they choose. So I was actually rather shocked to see that this person instead felt offended that she had paid money for a piece of literature that would show images of a same sex couple being affectionate with one another. Now I understand perfectly well that not everyone agrees with me on this issue, that has been made perfe... |
Thanks so much to Karen Evans Pictures, one of our pro-gay vendors, for sending us this rainy but sweet wedding- with a saint bernard! Well we both wanted to do an outdoor/simple/intimate wedding, so we picked a local park close to our newly bought home and invited our close friends and immediate families (around 70-80 total). The park is actually a ravine, so it was like being in the country, but still in the middle of the city at the same time. The backdrop of the “altar” was an eroded recess in one side of the ravine hill. We only had white folding chairs at the ceremony and no other... |

Ron and Yoni are a gay couple and they are also Modern Orthodox Jews. They wanted to be married in D.C. under a chuppah, in a synagogue, and by an Orthodox rabbi. This past November, at Sixth and I Synagogue, they were married by Rabbi Steve Greenberg surrounded by family and friends from the D.C. Minyan where the are members. Ron and Yoni took the better part of a year to create the ceremony, adapting the traditional Orthodox Jewish wedding ceremony to be acceptable for a gay couple. Very special! I want to use gay symbols in my wedding. Afterall, I am very proud to be gay and marrying a man. But, at the same time, I don’t want it to look like a wedding for Rainbow Brite or a gay pride parade. So my question early on in the process was, how can I tastefully incorporate some sort of gay symbol in my wedding? When thinking up solutions to wedding woes you’ll look everywhere you can. Tom and I decided to attend a NYC LGBT Expo last March hoping to score some ideas for our wedding and hoping to meet other couples planning weddings of their own. In all actuality, we felt like the only cou... |
Thanks so much to Marie Labbancz Photography, one of our pro-gay vendors, for not only sending us these photos but giving us all this great info about Tory and Monica’s wedding! From Marie Labbancz Photography: There was no other date than July 4th for Tory and Monica to be married. It was the date of their first kiss 4 years ago and it was the date they have always celebrated as their anniversary. The couple was married at Tory’s family’s riverfront estate in Connecticut, Hayden’s Point. The couple had a vision for their wedding celebration of Miami Beach (Monica) meets New... |
