Before I reveal what my mysterious french treasure is, I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite little shops in Santa Barbara. Lewis & Clark is one of the most charming gift stores you will ever wander into. Offering a unique combination of vintage, antique and new items, they carry everything from jewelry to antique silver flatware, beautiful ribbons, fabulous cookbooks, and religious statuary. The entire shop is simply filled with beautiful treasures to be coveted and admired. Recently one day as I was meandering through, I came across an unusual and quite beautiful item ... |
My sister Kathy of Elysia Desserts recently threw a gorgeous bridal shower for her dear friend Cynthia. The bridal shower theme was Antique French Library … For bridal shower favors, Kathy presented the bride’s favorite candy - Swedish Fish. The candy was delicately placed in a mason jar with khaki fabric tied on the top with a piece of twine to give it a country feel. The label read “So Many Fish In the Sea… I finally found the one for me!” as an ode to the Swedish fish encased in the bridal shower favors. Kathy took an antique and very budget-friendly approach to the bridal s... |
growing up with an antique-collecting mother and a grandmother who never drove past a garage sale without stopping, i know firsthand the tricks and trade of an antiques collector. i planted my first flowers in a Wedgewood pot… and when instructed to bring an empty jar for our 5th grade fish project, mine was a blue Ball jar, of course. i was raised surrounded by antiques, from the French finest like Lalique to good ole mid-century American depression glass. its no surprise then, that as an adult i absolutely adore antiques. and i did as a kid too. i went along happily on trips to ... |
This weekend, one of my favorite Wedding Paper Divas staffers invited me to tag along as she hunted for a coffee table at the Alameda Antiques Fair—a monthly gathering of vendors of everything from antique toys to clothing, housewares, furniture and art. I was amazed by how gorgeous, romantic and fun all of the vintage collections were (minus a few stuffed buffalo heads—eek!). If you have a few hours to spare, definitely check out your local antiques fair or flea market to find some stellar inspiration for your wedding attire and reception. Here’s a taste of some of the antique style you... |

I found the perfect finds on Ebay today, but unfortunately we don’t have the money. How lame. But these are what I found & I want to try to look again later when I have the money & maybe I’ll find them somewhere!!! This could be used for dinner mints & nuts on tables. These could be used to put cheese & crackers on tables. I’d like to have something like this for a relish tray. And this cake platter is beautiful. It would hold sandwiches. Aren’t these beautiful?!? My flowers are roses & the pinks in the roses are so close to my colors!! & their vintage!! Wha... |

I love the idea of attaching an antique pendant to your bouquet as that special “something old,” as Elizabeth Messina in her lovely lavendar bouquet in the picture below. Image courtesy of Thayer Allyson Gowdy Adding the delicate vintage touch can be done for less than $3! I found a website called MJTrim that sells velvet ribbons starting at just $0.79 cents. SewitchStiching sells really cute cameo pendants for just $1.75. ... |
photo ©DELPHINE A few weeks ago I went to visit my dear friend Reni’s new studio (super cute, by the way) and was completely intrigued by the unassuming antique shop located right next door (on State Street in Carlsbad, CA). The front looks a mess, just like the type of fun “junk shops” I loved to visit when I lived in New Bern, North Carolina. I spotted lots of fun treasures there — everything from vintage lamps to drawer pulls to a cool typewriter to a fun bright red 60’s suitcase. The prices were amazing, too (I was tempted to snatch up that suitcase — an American Tourister ... |
