Imagine if your good friend volunteered to play Willy Wonka for your wedding. That is exactly what happened to Rachel and Mark. We just had to share what Sandra Denneler created for these two love birds. A lemon lime feast for the eyes and the taste buds. There are so many more photos to see in the full gallery.Rachel likes sweet things. But Mark, is more of a salty guy. So Sandra had a mixed ensemble of all things sweet & salty – in various shades of greens and yellows. Cakes and desserts are a major focus for the event. The cake can add to the aesthetic, and create an additional design element. The wedding cake does not need to be elaborate or complicated. Over the past few years, we have been recommending dessert tables, scattered with old-fashioned cakes, pies, and treats. Also, recently for summer weddings, we have been recommending gelato and Italian ice carts. This past weekend, our clients had an ice cream cake in addition to the dessert bar. They topped the cake with “bride & groom” rubber ducks. We also like the idea of the self-serve dessert... |
The Alexis Party Rental Bridal Open house went well yesterday. I was excited about our design table. It turned out sweet and modern just as I wanted. I wanted to share a little idea that came up around this design. I have been thinking of how we can take modern reception ideas and turn them in our favor in this economy. I know so many couples want fabulous parties, but have smaller budgets to work with. As you can see from the photos there is candy accenting the design. So picture this- Beautiful candle lit 7pm ceremony. Followed by a fabulous dessert buffet reception. Instead of hosting a ful... |
I was totally inspired this weekend when my October couple and I visited the pastry chef to design their wedding cake and select their tiered flavors. A yummy blend of chocolate cake with a sour cherry filling was the winner and I immediately thought of those round Cherry Cordials candies. In search for a dessert along those lines, I discovered the "Cake Pop" craze and was too delighted! It's just as it sounds - cake + stick = cake pop.I've included some visuals and a recipe on how you can create this cute confection yourself. They'd make a great addition to any dessert table, bridal shower or... |
Well it appears that there is still a love affair with Dessert Tables. However, the consensus is they are changing. Here are a few of my favorites from the past year. Each one different, embracing the clients style, taste, and personality. Rustic and vintage, yet surprisingly chic. This sweet table was set at a ranch where burlap, old cupcake tins, and heirloom pieces were used. Sweets included: cheesecake bites, French macarons, chocolate lollicakes, blueberries, Bavarian filled cupcakes, and a sweet vintage cake for the bride and groom to cut. Set in the most glamorous and grand Vi... |
I'm dusting off my fine china this week in preparation for the holiday Passover. I'll be hosting the first seder for my family and I'm currently working on my dessert menu. Now let's be honest...desserts for Passover don't tend to excite people. The fact that you can't use flour during Passover makes recipe development for this holiday quite challenging. Luckily, Smitten Kitchen did a round up of 17 flourless passover dessert ideas that has me very excited for Passover desserts this year. I'm especially loving her family's lighter-than-air chocolate cake and the chocolate caramel mat... |
There will be a lot of champagne flowing over the next few days! Whether you are toasting on New Year's Eve or sipping Mimosas at your New Year's Day brunch, it's always fun to serve and drink. Here is a tasty twist on the traditional Mimosa. Mimosa Granita Yield: 8 cups (serving size: 1/2 cup) Ingredients 1 cup sugar 1 cup water 3 cups fresh orange juice (about 10 oranges) 2 cups Champagne or sparkling wine 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice Lime wedges (optional) Preparation Combine sugar and water in a large saucepan, and bring to a boil, ... |
One of the questions I hear most from brides and grooms is how to cut the budget. Of course we all know the #1 way to cut you budget is by cutting your guest list. But there are other ways to get creative....one of them is a cocktail and dessert reception.Cocktail and dessert receptions are really lovely in the early afternoon. Consider hiring a jazz quartet and serving a nice selection of white wine and prosecco. Dance the afternoon away and ask friends to meet you later in the evening for an after party.{image #1 from Country Living; image #2 a desert bar by Amy Atlas}... |
