Photo: Courtesy of Love Me Do Photography I came across this great escort card idea this morning and think the rustic display would work well at a relaxed wedding held at a farm, barn, or backyard. It would make a fairly easy DIY project, I think. First, long branches were bound together to create a frame, then escort cards with each guest's name and table number were attached to rows of twine using miniature wooden clothespins. • I was just in an antique store the other day and noticed the prettiest display of jewelry. The shop owner {who is so crafty} found a vintage frame. Inside of it was a piece of foam core that she wrapped in a neutral fabric. The jewelry hung from straight pins that were pinned into the foam core. The same idea would make such a lovely escort card display.{image via Instyle Wedings via Oh So Beautiful Paper}...

I love when things turn out exactly as I had pictured them. This one was a little iffy, all the way until it was finished. It turned out much girlier than I anticipated, but so far DJ does not seem to mind. The moss and girliness makes me think of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden. I ordered moss on eBay, with no idea what the color or texture might be - or even quantity. I’d recommend the seller I used, although he never did respond to my questions before buying. But it was delivered quickly and packed well. Quick note on moss: I ordered the dyed green variety, and it is a perf...

In fifteen years planning weddings, we've seen tons of escort card displays. At minimum, they tell guests where to sit at the reception, but the displays can also reveal lots about the personality of the couple getting married. Here are a few escort card displays that have inspired us lately with their originality and style.Photo Credit: The KnotApparently, this quirky display was inspired by the father of the bride's habit of putting his tie around his head at fun weddings. (Alternative explanation: the happy couple meeting at a "My Tie" party in college.)Photo Credit: Jesse LeakAdore these v...

We had so much fun with this escort card display. This was a great way for us to show-off our red and gray color scheme. MaterialsPaper craft tags in two sizes (paper-source.com)Thread holder (Michaels.com for stores)RibbonSpray paint Step 1 We tackled the wooden holder first. We put down a dropcloth (we basically used scraps of paper) and we spray painted. The key is to take your time so that you hit every inch.Step 2 After waiting about 5 hours for it to dry,we applied a second coat. Then set it aside to dry. Step 3 The tags were a cinch! Craft tags come with holes already punched out. Scor...

Sometimes the most creative, fresh ideas come to us while taking a walk down a charming street, as did the inspiration for this mini shoot. While on a stroll we spied this old battered fence panel and got an idea for an eco-friendly {and unique} escort card display. Out shooting another project with our friend and amazing photographer Shannon Lee, we also captured this little vignette, perfect for an intimate celebration like an engagement dinner or wedding brunch. If you have a number of tables to display you can multiply the fence panels or use something like a large old window pane and...

Photo: Novak Photography  We've all seen fruit used in centerpieces, but probably not under them! Even without the gorgeous amaryllis arrangements in the background, this escort card display (created from the florists at The European Gallery) would look amazing. The bed of apples, all of which are nearly identical in shape, size, and hue, packs a colorful punch, and the escort cards seem to magically float above them (yeah, yeah, I know there's a sheet of glass in between them and the apples).  Obviously, this would work well with red apples too, but you can also...

I made this project for Jon and Lauren’s wedding last year at Veritas (photograph above by Elizabeth Messina). Before we get started, if you need a refresher on the difference between place cards and escort cards (sometimes also called table cards), you can revisit this post. The first image in the post shows you the final product. The image above shows you the materials… 1. Wooden crate I found the wooden crate used here at Smith & Hawken’s very sad but very rewarding store closing sale. You could craft something similar or use a vintage wooden crate. 2. Heavy gauge copper wire. ...
