{Image from Author’s Personal Collection} Choosing wine for a wedding is a tricky business, especially if you are “in the business”. I’m often called upon to help my clients get the wines just right for their big day. Like me they have pretty fixed ideas but for most people this is not the case. Some people simplify, they pick their favourite wines and serve them. It is their wedding after all! Others are very aware of their audience and also what the wines they pick say about them. Others still have no interest in wine and serve fabulous buckets of cocktails and beer or just leave it... |
A friend of mine was a groomsmen at a wedding recently and he told me that the bride and groom rented a “party van” to take the bridal party to the pre-wedding photo shoot then to the ceremony, a post-ceremony photo shoot and then the reception. And of course the reason it wasn’t a regular van but a "party van" was that it was stocked with alcohol.I’m not saying that you shouldn’t drink the day of your wedding – and I’m not being a prude – but from what I understand the groom, groomsmen and bridesmaids – he doesn’t remember the bride’s status – "were wasted."If you’r... |
Guest Blogger Profile: Simon Daykin Now I like a good party as much as the next guy, actually I enjoy it more than the next guy, but you need to know when to say when and how much you can take. I have seen countless grooms and guests get right hammered not only at the wedding but at events leading up to the wedding. Some have been funny, but some were just uncalled for and way over the top. You need to know when you can hit the bar and when you need to hang back and just maintain the buzz. From my years of experience of attending and partaking, I humbly offer you the following advice. ... |
I am finally starting to enjoy drinking again. After 10 months of pregnancy followed by 8 months of breast feeding and then 2 months of round the clock craziness at my orthopedic rotation in Baltimore...it is time to party. Well...maybe not party as in the days of being an undergrad...but more in the "I'm a working mother who needs a pretty drink every now and then to stay sane and refreshed" category of party. I've been enjoying an alcoholic beverage almost every night recently. Especially now that the weather is warm and the sun is out...nothing beats a cold and crisp adu... |

Brides are looking for ways to cut back, but don't want to look stingie or cheap while doing so - so do you NEED to have an open bar at your wedding, I mean a full-all-out open bar? Why not just do beer and wine, do 3 different kinds of beer, and a White and Red wine - and one signature drink... that will limit what your guests can drink - and your can even come up with a fun name for your drink. You can color coordinate your drink to your colors, come up with a theme....or pre mix the drink so that your bar tender doesn't have to mix it individually. We've also have done His and Her's for... |
It's not a new concept, but it's a cool one. Signature drinks are becoming increasingly popular and they're also a good way to save on the bar bill. It's a great way to look posh and hip, and no one will know (unless they do a little research) that you're also saving money. Dress up your bar with custom printed drink menus and enjoy! So how do you choose your signature drink? Research drinks with a "love" theme, or choose your favorite cocktails and give them a new name. Personally, I love a drink called (locally anyway) a Starburst- orange juice, rum, coconut rum and pineapple juice. But,... |

I love going to weddings and seeing what creative ways the drinks or glasses are displayed. I came across a few websites that offer short-term rentals of canoes, boats, wagons etc. for weddings and other parties. To give you an idea, check out http://www.vermontweddingprops.com/wagons/. Drink displays, such as self-serve wagons or canoes, allow guests to help themselves and are great for creating a more comfortable feel at your wedding. I attended one of my friend’s weddings a few summers ago who had a self-serve canoe filled with bottles of water and beer. It was so easy to just wal... |
