I apologize that I did not get this post up last week! I was hoping to make the floral explanation series a weekly thing! You can get them throughout August but they really start to look amazing in September and October. They come in a variety of colors and we love working with them as they give any arrangement nice texture. Colors include the vibrant orange above, peach, white with a hint of green,... |

I am so in love with Dahlia’s. This was a flower I had typically avoided from the wholesalers. Once cut, it has about a four day vase life. Meaning, if it was not coming from the farm next door, it often looked a little weathered by the time it took a few plane trips to my house. My love affair started when I found a Dahlia grower at my local farmers market, Don’s Dahlias. The day I found him, I was addicted. Dahlia’s are peak from mid July until the first frost. First frost varies from region to region. In the Washington DC area that usually means mid October. Now that I have my ... |
By Michael Mantalos, Louloudi Design Summer conjures up a host of images, but the one universal impression is light. Our days are longer, the sun shines a little stronger and our world is literally filled with light. Summer is vivid, fresh and crisp and our moods often acquiesce to the inspiration of bright. In our wedding world, that translates to fun. Dahlias are one of the most spectacular flowers. They come in vibrant colors and can be as small as two inches around to as large as a foot in diameter. There are over 36 species. Most flowers only have two sets of chromosones but Dahlias have eight sets which accounts for the multiple varieties. They grow well in a sunny, warmer climate and prefer soil with sand mixed in. Dahlias will add color to your garden and can last up to a week when cut. They are in seaon now so hurry and pick some up at your local farmer's market. These are from Montecito Flowers on Coast Village Road in Montecito. ... |
