Ho-Yan and Ryan are out in China right now preparing for their second wedding celebration. The first was held here in London and involved a few parts to the day, which is why I am going to blog these in sections. First was the preparations, followed by the groom coming over to the bride’s hotel. He has to get through a number of tasks and games set by the bridesmaids and bride’s friends and family. This may involve eating wasabi, being waxed or any other crazy ideas you can think of! After this the bride and groom are united and see each other for the first time. The proceed down to gree... |
Filed under: Culture Clash, Wedding Lore/Traditions, CeremoniesChina is an enormous country with diverse cultures. The north is different than the south, the cities are different to the much-poorer countryside. Though women and men have equal rights, and though many young people choose their own partners and marry in their own way, there are still areas of the country where traditional weddings and even arranged marriages take place.Traditional Chinese weddings include: The Three Letters -- betrothal, gift, and wedding; and The Six Etiquettes -- the betrothal, birthday matching, the betrothal ... |
Yin & Jeremy’s wedding was a bringing together of two cultures. Yin is Chinese and Jeremy is originally from France. It was wonderful to see the mixing of these traditions. The ceremony was held at the beautiful Miskin Manor country house just outside Cardiff where a traditional western wedding ceremony was held. A Chinese banquette was laid out by the Riverside Cantonese and finally the evening reception was held in central Cardiff at The Angel Hotel . It was a very long day but it would have to be in order to fit in two wedding traditions! ... |
Our Chinese banquet was last weekend, and I almost cannot believe that all of our wedding events are over. It’s giving me time to reflect and obsessively plan for our trip to Japan, and while wedding planning made me crazy and lose weight from anxiety, there’s a part of me that’s a little sad it’s all over. Can I come over and plan your wedding now? Here’s a sneak peak of our Chinese banquet until I can fully recap! I got the boy good, didn’t I? The Chinese Garden Of Friendship in Sydney is such a stunning wedding venue. So lush and green with the peace and tranquility. The gardens were built to celebrate by the local Sydney Chinese community to celebrate Australia’s bicentenary. A nod also to Sydney’s sister city of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, China. There are three venues to choose from for your wedding (ceremony or reception) with gorgeous names like the ‘Hall of Longevity’ (fits 120) or the ‘Peace Boat Pavilion (fits 40). The garden is a public area, but can be hired privately for wedding receptions from 5.30pm unt... |
Happy Lunar New Year! In honor of my Chinese heritage, I wanted to share this modern take on the traditional Chinese Cheong-sam (or Qi Pao) dress by NE-TIGER, one of China’s fastest-growing fashion houses. Inspired by the Tang Dynasty, he updated a traditional design and turned it into something so beautiful and new. I love the silhouette of the blue dress and all the unique Chinese details he’s infused in his designs. Bold, striking and beautiful! xoxo, Henny V.... |
The majority of submissions that land in Rock n Roll Bride’s inbox are from photographers. which is great because I get to sample all the best, innovative and inspiring new photography and Rock n Roll weddings out there. However there is something very special about receiving an excitable email from a recently married couple, bursting to tell me all about their wedding. I got an email just like this only yesterday and Sally & Sam’s charming vintage/Chinese fusion wedding was only made better by the fabulous running commentary from the bride. “I married my husband over the bank holid... |
Omistars in Heaven Above.  (Haven’t started out that way for a bit  ) So, how fabulous is this positively adorable cake depicting a yummy-looking stack of Chinese takeout?  Would you not LOVE to know this story?  I shall imagine one for us. The couple met and fell in love, and soon discovered they also shared a passion for noodles. No. The couple met when he delivered the noodles to the wrong door. No. Well, whatever the story, it’s fantastically detailed and meticulously executed.  I mean, perfect, y’all.  There’s nothing worse than a cake that’s supposed... |
