Our venue didn’t really require a lot of decorating. The dark woodwork and stained glass really set the scene on its own. Since our ceremony started at seven, followed by a cocktail hour, our actual reception didn’t start until about 8:30. We wanted the reception to feel like an old party they might have had years ago in the space, cozy and classic with a lot of candlelight. Our ceremony Dan’s mother happened to have quite a few lacy glass hurricanes from his sister’s wedding that we were able to use with rented silver chargers on half of the tables. For the three tables that were fro... |
I'm sure I've mentioned before that the walls in our apartment are practically covered completely with collected art and pictures. I can't help it. I surround myself with beautiful imagery from my life, travels and adventures...it's the former gallery/museum girl in me. (see what I mean here and here!)When I "grow up" I'd love to have a rotating gallery of my own - and pull out certain pictures/prints during specific seasons. Like this picture...it's only out during the autumn months...the rest of the time this large frame is the home to a fab lithograph of Pirate's Alley in ... |
Because our ballroom was so grand and elaborate, our reception didn’t require a lot of decoration. We chose a ballroom with a gorgeous damask fabric wall covering in gold after we determined that our colors were pink and gold. The room had gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful gold drapes. The room is actually called the Gold Room at the Westin Poinsett Hotel. Our biggest issue with the hotel was the linen choice. We didn’t have any choice. If we used their linens, we would have white polyester linens. I’m not a linen snob or anything, but I knew we could do better. We went to BBJ Linen in ... |
I have always loved blackboards as wedding decor. They make a rustic and fun way of presenting a menu, seating chart, directional sign, candy table decoration and table sign. Maybe its the fact that I come from a family of teachers or that I spent hours making chalk drawings on blackboards to make some extra money. Whatever the reason for my adoration, blackboards are a wonderful addition for any party, wedding or celebration. They get the message across in a fun way. After Tuesday’s post on the well, endless bar and buffet ideas for your wedding. i thought today’s post could be about how to make your bar come to life! I love that bars and buffets provide a place for guests to congregate, have a bit of a giggle over sweet treats and perhaps hide a few lollies in their pockets! - Brides in the USA do buffets really well. For inspiration look at Amy Atlas, Martha Stewart, Colin Cowie, Jo Gartin and Preston Bailey – all have books, magazines or websites that are a feast for the eye. The point is to take a little of the things that appeal to you and adapt... |

Curl up with your loved ones, watch a lot of great Christmas movies (Love Actually is my personal favorite!) and enjoy a restful and relaxing holiday. Easter is next weekend and many kids are getting excited for the fun tradition of dying eggs. More recently, some crafty divas have found creative ways to decorate eggs that will get adults excited for this widely celebrated tradition as well. Above are a few of my favorite easter egg decorating ideas. I adore the origami eggs with the egg nest made from origami scrap paper. I love the idea of these decorated eggs piled on paper nests along a long Easter brunch buffet. You can also simply use scrapbooking paper or beautiful gift wrap paper from your local craft store and apply the same tec... |
