September's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was the scene of the hottest designer fashion debuts in the country.  It's always interesting to see what trends bleed over into bridal gown design.  The one-shoulder strap, Grecian goddess gowns, and natural-waist belts did it last year.  Here's my speculation on the Spring 2009 trends that we might see more of at the New York bridal market this month.  BCBG used loads of silk jersey, which is becoming more popular as an easy, breezy bridesmaid dress fabric.  It's comfortable, doesn't scream "Bridesmaid!", and your bridal party has a 95% chan...

It's fashion week in New York City this week, when all the designers (big and small) debut their Spring 2010 collections to buyers, editors and press. I absolutely love this fashion week because I get a glimpse of what might appear on the Bridal Fashion runways. This year, based on these gorgeous looks from Reem Acra, Lela Rose and Monique Lhuillier, I think it's going to be all about draping. Ball gowns and textured tulle were huge last season, a return to the grecian look could be really exciting! Would you wear any of these ready-to-wear designs for your weddding? Still looking for your dream gown? Why not turn to the silver screen for a little inspiration? We were recently told that a design by our good (and talented) friend Matthew Christopher will be featured in You Again, the upcoming A-list romantic comedy about a successful PR pro who goes home for her older brother’s wedding only to find out he is marrying her arch nemesis. Naturally, this got us thinking of other to-die-for gowns featured in the movies! We loved Anne Hathaway’s gorgeous Vera Wang in Bride Wars, Sarah Jessica Parker’s extravagant Vivienne Westwood in Sex and the City: The M...

I participated in Portland's Fashion Design Camp finale fashion show on Friday, and what a blast it was. I've never seen little girls with such style and attitude (where was fashion camp when I was 9?). There was plenty of backstage chaos, but the whole beautiful mess was ably managed by the lovely Adazoe (who also modeled). Cheers to the camp's class of 2008. May their glitter never wash off.
