This 4 tier square wedding cake was for high school sweethearts who were married this weekend at the Stone House in Warren, NJ. The top of the cake includes several sugar roses & hydrangeas. Ivory fondant with cutout lace appliques and rose petals cover the tiers and a bronze monogram “K L T” finishes off the design. Flavors included red velvet cake with vanilla Italian meringue and lemon cream cheese and chocolate with peanut butter and oreos and cream buttercream. Erin left us this message on our facebook page. Thanks Erin – glad the bride and groom enjoyed the cake: And it was... |
I love when I find a classic technique or concept, with a totally unique twist. It’s well documented that, even if bakers get sick and tired of white-on-white-on-white cakes, I am a big fan of them. I just think a cake that doesn’t use a lot of fireworks, or bells and whistles, but just stands there, with dignity, in white simplicity, is perfection. I think few cakes showcase a cake artist’s talent and creativity better than what they do with a white on white palette. This fondant cake is a beauty. I was out shopping for the house when I wandered into the Pottery Barn store I used to work at. I didn’t intend on buying anything but after looking around the store for quite some time, I saw this: { cake stand from Pottery Barn, photo by me } Now, before blogging entered my life, I didn’t feel like I had any need for a cake stand. Our gorgeous cake was made by the extraordinary Ron Ben Israel--as a surprise for my husband, I asked Ron to secretly put a pair of wings on the cake (my husband was officially "winged" and designated a Naval Aviator only 8 days before the wedding). How I do love this Martha cake--this was the picture I gave to Ron Ben Israel to use as inspiration for my wedding cake.... |
Recently, I've been in bathing suit mode... avoiding sweets and such. A note to those of you doing the same: Look away, avert your eyes. After browsing page after page of cakes over at CakeWork, (it's now 11:05 am) I want nothing more than a big piece of cake. Don't skimp on the frosting. Actually, I could take or leave the cake, I just want the frosting. And I want one of those little tiny cakes over at oh joy! while we're at it. The ever so tempting CakeWork is in San Francisco and the designer's specialty is cakes wrapped in white chocolate, rather than buttercream or fondant. I think it's ... |
