photo ©DELPHINE A few weeks ago I went to visit my dear friend Reni’s new studio (super cute, by the way) and was completely intrigued by the unassuming antique shop located right next door (on State Street in Carlsbad, CA). The front looks a mess, just like the type of fun “junk shops” I loved to visit when I lived in New Bern, North Carolina. I spotted lots of fun treasures there — everything from vintage lamps to drawer pulls to a cool typewriter to a fun bright red 60’s suitcase. The prices were amazing, too (I was tempted to snatch up that suitcase — an American Tourister ... |
growing up with an antique-collecting mother and a grandmother who never drove past a garage sale without stopping, i know firsthand the tricks and trade of an antiques collector. i planted my first flowers in a Wedgewood pot… and when instructed to bring an empty jar for our 5th grade fish project, mine was a blue Ball jar, of course. i was raised surrounded by antiques, from the French finest like Lalique to good ole mid-century American depression glass. its no surprise then, that as an adult i absolutely adore antiques. and i did as a kid too. i went along happily on trips to ... |
I found the perfect finds on Ebay today, but unfortunately we don’t have the money. How lame. But these are what I found & I want to try to look again later when I have the money & maybe I’ll find them somewhere!!! This could be used for dinner mints & nuts on tables. These could be used to put cheese & crackers on tables. I’d like to have something like this for a relish tray. And this cake platter is beautiful. It would hold sandwiches. Aren’t these beautiful?!? My flowers are roses & the pinks in the roses are so close to my colors!! & their vintage!! Wha... |

From flickr.com In Artimino, the church is probably the equivalent of three NYC blocks from the castle. So, it seems odd to have a method of transportation just to bring us to the church and then to the castle for the reception. However, there were a few things that factored into our decision to have some alternate method of transport. 1. I will be in a long, flowing, ivory gown, and I don’t think I will bustle it up until I am in the castle for apperativo (cocktails and hors d’oeuvres) 2. The road from the church to the castle varies between cobble stones, pavement, and dirt so I... |
I love the idea of attaching an antique pendant to your bouquet as that special “something old,” as Elizabeth Messina in her lovely lavendar bouquet in the picture below. Image courtesy of Thayer Allyson Gowdy Adding the delicate vintage touch can be done for less than $3! I found a website called MJTrim that sells velvet ribbons starting at just $0.79 cents. SewitchStiching sells really cute cameo pendants for just $1.75. ... |
Every once in a while I have a consumer ask me about antique weddings rings. Actually, many times the individual is looking for an antique-style engagement ring or wedding ring, and not necessarily a style that has been create years and years ago.An antique is generally defined as an old collectable item that is approximately 100 years old (if not older). It is looked-for because of its age, beauty, rarity, condition, utility, and/or other unique features. An antique represents a previous era or time period in human society. Jewelry stores that sell estate jewelry may have older designs in the... |
Filed under: Fashion, RingsGallery: Antique Engagement RingsWhen you think of antiques, you think of fragility -- things to be viewed but not touched, for the most part. But when you're talking about antique jewelry, you're talking about some of the finest quality and most durable accessories there are. Back before everything was mass produced by machine, jewelers cut and carved every piece of a ring or pendant at their work benches in their shops. Rings were hand made, intricately designed, one-of-a-kind masterpieces. That's why these styles are so popular still today.Traditional antique styl... |

Lovely headpieces by Feather and Frills for all the bridesmaids as gifts they can wear on your day and beyond, let each girl pick her own. Gorgeous vintage looking flowers and mismatched chairs look charming paired with white table linens layered with antique lace tablecloths for this backyard or park wedding (also one of the next big things in weddings according to Brides magazine).
