• Adelaide designer Sok of Malachi caught my fancy this week with her stylish, out of the ordinary designs – isn’t the pink dipped gown above dreamy?Sok has been designing and creating gowns since she was 15. She is entirely self taught and has a passion for fine couture. Her designs are different – there’s drama, intensity and romance in each. Sok prefers to work with fabrics before she sketches and designs a gown – her love of texture and fabrications helps guide her as she creates your wedding gown. The Malachi Empire can also provide you with hair & makeup sty...

How did I ever miss this incredible BBC series back in the 90s? Thanks to my public library, I can finally see the whole kit and kaboodle, measuring out three seasons long. The House of Elliott chronicles the lives of two sisters setting up a toney couture house in post WWI London. The magnificent costuming by Joan Wadge can't be missed if you are in any way in love with jazz age fashion. While the 20's proffered little in the way of flattering silhouettes, the detailing in fashion was extraordinary. Thus, the cavalcade of chic found in this series goes for sets and decor intricate in detail ...

So this is an interesting concept. Conde Nast has created something called Dream House. As far as I understand it, Dream House is a showplace home, designed to inspire newlywed or newly engaged couples. In addition to displaying some fabulous decor, the fanciest in bridal attire, and the epitome of registry chic, the Dream House will be open to the public for tours, cocktail parties, classes and spa treatments. The Dream House will only be open for four weeks, starting on the 18th of October. You can visit the Dream House main site to see a schedule of events, and purchase tickets. Part of the...

  • While this really has nothing to do with weddings, I just thought it was so cool & wanted to share! This morning I went to snap a quick portrait shot of Bryan Beaulieu for his upcoming presentation at the Chamber's green roundtable. Bryan is an environmentally-conscious engineer and has created his masterpiece home called "the hydrogen house." It is completely sustainable and allows him and his family to live entirely off the grid. Not to mention it is GORGEOUS! Here are some photos and a place to read more about this house:solar panels seamlessly integrated on the roof & covered in iv...

  • The tradition of baking sweetly decorated houses out of Gingerbread began in Germany after the Brothers Grimm’s story of Hansel and Gretel. In the story children were left to starve in the forest, and they came upon a house made of bread and sugar decorations. The hungry children feasted on its sweet shingles. After the fairy tale was published, German bakers began baking houses of lebkuchen, a spicy cake often containing ginger. The houses became particularly popular during Christmas, a tradition that crossed the ocean with German immigrants. In our bakery, I watched as our Master Cak...
